Dr. McMurtry grew up in Clearwater, Florida, enjoying the warm sunshine and humidity only Florida can offer. His college years were spent at UNC - Chapel Hill, where he earned both his BS in Chemistry (Biochemistry Track)(1997) and Doctor of Dental Surgery (2001).

After graduation, Dr. McMurtry was commissioned a Lieutenant in the United States Navy Dental Corps and was first stationed at Naval Hospital Great Lakes, where he completed a General Practice Residency. In 2002, he was transferred to Little Creek, Virginia, where he was the Dental Department Head aboard the USS WHIDBEY ISLAND (LSD 41). After completing his tour onboard the WHIDBEY ISLAND, Dr. McMurtry finished out his time in the Navy at the Naval Dental Center Mid-Atlantic. Dr. McMurtry is currently a Lieutenant Commander in the US Naval Reserves.

Dr. McMurtry and his wife, Lisa, were married in July 2005 on the tropical island of St. Thomas, where they also enjoyed their honeymoon. Upon returning home to their new home in Charlotte, Dr. McMurtry began final preparations to open his new office in the Mountain Island area. On August 16, 2005, MIV Dental saw its first patient, and his practice has been growing ever since. In late December 2006, Dr. McMurtry and Lisa were blessed with the birth of their first child, Austin.

Recent News - Dr. McMurtry just passed his Fellowship exam for the Academy of General Dentistry and will have this prestigious honor awarded to him next summer at the AGD Annual Meeting in Orlando, FL.
